If you've got boys who love cars and you want Dad to have something to do as well then you have to pay a visit to the Southward Vintage Car Museum. Home to more than 400 classic vehicles and a cafe and restaurant if you're looking for a place to have lunch, it's easy to lose a day wandering the museum enjoying what's on show. The museum runs a range of activities like tours through their restoration workshop and weekend barbecues for the kids. Entry is $10 for adults and free for kids under 15, and you'll find the Southward Vintage Car Museum on Otaihanga Road in Paraparaumu.
Te Papa
One of Wellington's top destinations, Te Papa museum is one of the most impressive and perhaps the best known in the country. With exhibitions that explore everything from New Zealand history and native wildlife to international cultural and artistic heritage, Te Papa has a huge range. The museum is known for combining technology into its displays and its rotating range of exhibitions. Entry is free and you can find Te Papa on Cable Street by the Wellington Waterfront.
Wellington Zoo
New Zealand's first zoo and one of the coolest little visits in the country, Wellington Zoo boasts a range of exciting encounters with some very amazing wildlife. Book a close encounter with an exotic animal, get friendly with cheetahs, red pandas or lions, visit the enclosures of more than 100 species of animal, exotic and native, and get involved with weekly activities put on by zoo staff. Wellington Zoo has great family entry rates and you can find it on Daniell Street in Newton.
